Crafting Recipes Reference

The Suncraft crafting recipes reference lists the material chains every villager quest eventually touches. Spicy Tuna Games built this incremental sim so restoration beats require processed goods— not raw logs in your pocket. Use this page at the furnace when Eric asks about soil minerals, when the cargo tram needs glass and steel bars, or when you forget whether coal belongs in the same smelt queue as iron ore.

Cross-link Resource Chain Planner for multi-furnace timing and Equipment Upgrades when a recipe needs a higher tool tier to gather inputs faster.

Recipe notation

Each entry shows:

  • Inputs — raw materials from nodes or prior crafts
  • Output — finished item for quests or next-tier recipes
  • Station — furnace, workbench, or processing building
  • Notes — skill synergies, Ember fueling, demo vs full-release quirks

Quantities reflect July 28, 2026 release balance from demo parity plus Devlog #2 tuning. Patch changes land in Updates.

Planks (wood foundation chain)

Inputs: logs from trees near the village hub.

Output: planks for buildings, bridges, furnace construction, and early villager repairs.

Station: workbench or wood processing station (exact building name varies by quest unlock order).

Notes: Planks compete with coal time for furnace fuel in the earliest minutes. Once coal veins are online, prefer coal for smelting and reserve planks for construction. Demo players often craft a second furnace around ten planks, three iron bars, and five coal—budget planks accordingly (Early Game Builds).

Skill synergy: Deep Pockets reduces log trips; automation does not craft planks but keeps furnaces fed while you chop.

Iron bars (core smelting chain)

Inputs: iron ore plus coal (typical cozy sim ratio—keep coal chests adjacent).

Output: iron bars for tools, quest turn-ins, and steel precursor.

Station: furnace.

Notes: Iron bars gate the first major tool upgrades on the redesigned equipment page. If bar production stalls, check coal starvation before adding damage multiplier skills (Skill Priority). Dual furnaces can run ore on one line while the other alternates plank-related crafts only if coal is buffered—see chain planner.

Quest link: Bridge repairs, Ember introduction materials, and multiple Eric requests scale iron demand mid early game.

Glass (tram and Sunspire chain)

Inputs: sand, quartz-related minerals, or region-specific inputs unlocked after soil sifting conversations—confirm in-game tooltip on your save.

Output: glass panes for advanced construction.

Station: furnace or dedicated glass process (follow building menu after quest unlock).

Notes: Glass appears prominently when villagers discuss the cargo tram destroyed by the midnight frost—rebuild storyline expects planks, glass, and steel bars together. Pre-smelt glass before turning in bundles to avoid partial delivery frustration.

Skill synergy: Storage chests prevent sand and glass components from filling carry slots on long walks from coastal or desert nodes.

Steel bars (advanced smelting chain)

Inputs: iron bars plus additional coal or fuel upgrades; some steps may need upgraded furnaces or tool tiers in 1.0.

Output: steel bars for tram chassis, Sunspire restoration, and late equipment tiers.

Station: furnace (often second-tier smelting after iron is stable).

Notes: Steel is the reason single-furnace lazy builds fall off—parallel iron and steel scheduling needs two lines or strict batching in Resource Chain Planner. Ember automation shines here: steel waits on human attention without fuel bots.

Equipment link: Processing tool tiers on Equipment Upgrades reduce per-bar time—craft tools before stockpiling fifty bars “just in case.”

Quartz processing (mineral side chain)

Inputs: quartz shards or raw quartz from mineral deposits; related soil sift byproducts after Eric arc.

Output: processed quartz for quests, glass adjacency, or statue requirements depending on progression.

Station: processing building unlocked alongside mineral storyline.

Notes: Demo endings sometimes stalled on copper and gold ore walls while quartz piled unprocessed—do not repeat that pattern. Pair gathering with pickaxe tier upgrades before bulk processing.

Skill synergy: Damage multiplier helps break quartz nodes; processing speed comes from equipment tiers more than skill flat boosts post-revamp (Skill Tree Revamp).

Coal (support resource, not optional)

Role: fuels nearly every furnace recipe.

Failure mode: treating coal as afterthought while over-producing planks or ore.

Fix: dedicate a chest slot labeled coal only; Ember patrol starts here once unlocked (Getting Started).

Composite quest bundles

Quest phaseTypical bundlePrep order
Second furnaceplanks + iron bars + coalSmelt bars, craft planks, reserve coal
Bridge / shelf repairsplanks + iron barsParallel furnaces ideal
Tram rebuildplanks + glass + steel barsGlass batch, then steel, then turn-in
Statue / late demobars + rare orePickaxe tier before ore rush

Recipe efficiency tips

  1. Batch same-station items — all iron bars, then all glass, reduces Ember pathing swaps.
  2. Never smelt without coal backup — two cycles of ore ready, three cycles of coal ready minimum.
  3. Match pickaxe tier to next recipe inputs — upgrading tools beats upgrading furnaces if nodes are the bottleneck.
  4. Read coin shop before bulk craftFull Release coins may cheapen ingredients with high walk time.
  5. Demo carryover — imported saves may mid-chain; read Demo Carryover before duplicating existing stockpiles.

When recipes are not enough

Recipes tell you what; planners tell you when. Open Resource Chain Planner the moment a second furnace starves the first. Open Skill Tree guide when a recipe is unlocked but the building menu greyed out—some gates are skill nodes, not materials alone.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers to the most common questions.

How many planks does the second furnace need?

Demo pacing centers around ten planks alongside three iron bars and five coal. Confirm tooltip on your 1.0 save in case balance shifted.

Can I buy glass or steel with coins instead of crafting?

Full release adds coin vendors. Compare walk time versus coin cost at the shop—efficiency depends on your map unlocks.

Why do my iron bars craft slowly?

Usually coal starvation or single furnace queue blocking. Check coal chest proximity and consider dual furnace layout.

When does quartz processing unlock?

After early mineral/soil storyline with Eric—exact building appears in the processing menu when the quest triggers.

Do Banquet Table recipes appear here?

Request-specific ingredients will be added as 1.0 request data is verified. Core restoration recipes above take priority at launch.

Are recipe ratios the same on Mac and Linux?

Yes. Spicy Tuna Games ships the same balance on Windows, macOS, and Linux per Steam store listing.
