What Ember does

Ember automates slices of the gather-carry-deposit loop you learned in Getting Started:

• Targets nearby resource nodes within its radius when automation skills allow.
• Picks up drops without hold-to-carry mouse input.
• Deposits into assigned chests or furnace inputs when routing is configured.
• Refuels furnaces once fuel automation unlocks — the highest quality-of-life upgrade for smelting lines.

Ember is not instant endgame. Early companion AI is slow and dumb until skill investments and chest placement catch up.

Unlocking Ember

Recruitment triggers through a villager quest or Sunspire restoration milestone — exact dialogue varies by patch, but the flow is consistent: complete early village tasks, restore a workshop or hearth building, then accept Ember’s introduction quest from Quest Walkthrough. Do not rush distant biomes before this; automation gates comfortable midgame.

After recruitment, Ember follows you or patrols assigned zones depending on configuration UI. Name labels are cosmetic; behavior comes from skills and chest tags.

Chest routing setup

Ember needs addresses. Place chests in a U-shape around furnaces:

• Input chest — ore or sand Ember fills from gathering.

• Output chest — optional buffer for bars and glass you pick up for quests.

Tag or assign chests in the automation UI if the game supports labels; otherwise position dictates default priority — nearest valid chest wins.

Fuel starvation idle furnaces more often than missing ore. Fuel automation lets Ember:

Requirements:

• Stable wood income — automation amplifies supply but does not create it; keep tree lines or secondary wood farms active.
• Fuel chest minimum stock — set a personal rule: never below fifty wood before starting steel batches.
• Parallel furnaces — each furnace needs reachable fuel slots; cramped placement blocks Ember pathing.

Once fuel automation runs, manual refueling should be emergency-only during magma shard quest spikes.

Gather automation and node priority

Assign Ember to node types matching your production plan:

• Iron focus when bridge and tram quests peak — Quest Walkthrough.
• Sand focus before glass-heavy Sunspire windows.
• Mixed early only if chest space is abundant.

Ember does not replace damage multiplier skill points. Low damage means slow clears even with automation active. Boost damage until nodes pop at acceptable speed, then shift points toward automation branches.

When to keep clicking manually

Automation is not all-or-nothing:

• Burst click sessions when a new biome node appears in Map and Biomes.
• Quest turn-ins at NPCs — Ember may not interact with dialogue targets.
• Precision deposits into special crafting stations not yet supported by routing.

Many players hybridize: Ember maintains iron and fuel while they manually farm rare snowy peak materials.

Rebuilding Sunspire demands mixed material waves. Schedule automation profiles:

• Weekday iron + fuel baseline.

• Steel hold until tram quest activates.

Troubleshooting Ember

• Ember idle — verify chest space, pathing gaps, or missing fuel in source chest.
• Items on ground — deposit automation unlocked too early or chest full.
• Furnaces still starve — fuel automation not unlocked or furnace outside patrol radius.
• Slower than manual — invest damage and companion speed before judging automation.
